Our founding Scoutmaster, Ronald Charles Berman, passed away on January 23, 2026. He founded Troop 940 in 1978 after acting as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 540. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 940 for 30 years from 1978-2008. He continued to serve Troop 940 as the Chartered Organizational Representative until 2025. He worked tirelessly for his Troop and will be missed by all.
Among Ron’s achievements:
Eagle Scout, Wood Badge, Silver Beaver (1980), Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor (1987)
Ron was active in both Four Lakes Council and its successor, Glacier's Edge Council. He also served on the staff at four National Scout Jamborees and three World Jamborees.
At Troop 940's Court of Honor in September 2025, Ron received an award from Glacier's Edge Council, Scouting America for 65 years of service to Scouting. At the Council Dinner in February 2026, Ron posthumously receive the 2026 NESA, Outstanding Eagle Scout Award from Glacier's Edge Council.
